Liechtenstein: The 50th Anniversary of the Wedding of Prince Hans-Adam II and Princess Marie of Liechtenstein + EUROPA 23 - "Registered Cover"

On 30th July 2017 Prince Hans-Adam II and Princess Marie of Liechtenstein, who got married on this day in 1967, celebrated their 50th Wedding-Anniversary ("Golden Wedding"). The nice bloc stamp on the left was issued in 2017 to mark this occasion. Sadly Princess Marie passed away on 18th August 2021. A nice postcard from the Royal Family of Liechtenstein can be found on my Blog here

This Cover was mailed on 31st December 2023 from Schaanwald. The village is located in north-central Liechtenstein, close to Austrian borders of Feldkirch. It was the last day of old postal rates. Despite the old rates this cover is slightly overpaid (CHF 8,10 on this cover compared to the costs of a registered letter of CHF 7,80 in 2023)

Liechtenstein: "Peace. For every child"

In 2022 the Post of Liechtenstein and UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) issued this stamp to help children from Ukraine, who had to leave their homes because of the horrible war. For every sold stamp 0.50 CHF went into UNICEF projects to support these children. This cover was sent from the city of Balzers.

Liechtenstein: Year of the Dog

Chinese new year started on Friday, February 16, 2018. The Dog (狗) is the eleventh of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar. A Dog’s most defining characteristic is their loyalty. They will never abandon their friends, family or work. Famous people born in a year of the dog include:  Issac Newton (1643 – 1727), Benjamin Franklin (1706 – 1790) or Winston Churchill (1874 – 1965).

Like the years before, Liechtenstein Post issued a very nice stamp dedicated to Chinese New Year. It can be seen on this cover from Liechtenstein sent from the City of Triesen.

Liechtenstein: The 200th Anniversary of the K.K.Briefsammelstelle Balzers

The history of Liechtenstein’s postal service began 200 years ago with a mail collection station in Balzers. On 1 September 1817, the k.k. österreichische Post (Imperial and Royal Austrian Post) opened a mail collection station in Balzers, followed in 1845 by a second collection station in Vaduz.  By 1912, there were a total of five Austrian-run post offices in Liechtenstein. That same year Liechtenstein also began to issue its own stamps. After the First World War, Liechtenstein left its 100-year relationship with the Austrian post and joined the Swiss PTT, concluding a postal contract with Switzerland in 1920. The move was regarded as necessary requirement to adopting the Swiss franc and customs treaty with Switzerland. In September 2017 the Post of Liechtenstein celebrated this Anniversary with several events and also by issuing this nice sheet you can see on the following cover cancelled by Balzers Post Office.

Liechtenstein: EUROPA - "Castles"

Liechtenstein issued two different stamp for this year's EUROPA theme. The first stamps shows Vaduz Castle. Vaduz Castle (German: Schloss Vaduz) is the palace and official residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein. The castle gave its name to the town of Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, which it overlooks from an adjacent hilltop. I got the stamp on a special Fair Cover from the International Stamp Fair in Essen including a special Fair Cancellation.

The second stamp shows Gutenberg Castle (German: Burg Gutenberg). It is a preserved castle in the town of Balzers, Liechtenstein, the centre of the municipality of Balzers. Gutenberg is one of the five castles of the principality and one of two that have survived preserved until the present day. Unlike Vaduz Castle, Gutenberg Castle does not serve as a residence of the princely family of Liechtenstein and is open to the general public as a museum.

Liechtenstein: Ruggeller Riet

Ruggell is the most northerly and low-lying of the Liechtenstein communities/municipalities. While Liechtenstein is known as a largely mountainous country, Ruggell is largely flat and is situated along the Rhine River, where the international borders with Switzerland and Austria meet. The stamp shows the Ruggeler Riet Nature Reserve. It covers an area of 90 hectares. Its rich variety of local fauna and, in particular, flora makes it a fascinating region perfect for nature-lovers.

Liechtenstein: Flag-Card

I received this nice card some weeks ago from Rosmarie. It shows the flag of Liechtenstein. The flag consists of two horizontal blue and red bands charged with a gold crown at the canton. Adopted in 1921 after being officially enshrined into the nation's constitution, it has been the flag of the Principality of Liechtenstein since that year. The crown was added to the flag in 1937 after the country found out at the Summer Olympics held the previous year that their flag was identical to the flag of Haiti.

Thanks to Rosmarie for this card!

Liechtenstein: EUROPA - "Think Green" Official First Day Cover

Europa stamps are special stamps issued by European postal administrations/ enterprises under the aegis of PostEurop in which Europe is the central theme. EUROPA stamps underlines cooperation in the posts domain, taking into account promotion of philately. They also build awareness of the common roots, culture and history of Europe and its common goals. As such, EUROPA stamp issues are among the most collected and most popular stamps in the world. Since the first issue in 1956, EUROPA stamps have been a tangible symbol of Europe’s desire for closer integration and cooperation and in 1993, PostEurop became responsible for issuing EUROPA stamps. Over the years, EUROPA stamp has gained more interest within the Postal community as well as with philatelist, and reflects the engagement from the members in diligently participating in the competition.

This year EUROPA Stamps is celebrating its 60th Anniversary with a common design: Ecology in Europe - "Think Green". I ordered this official FDC and the stamps from the Liechtenstein Post Shop.
