Germany: Postal Stationary - "Germania: Myth and Stamp"

Germania stamps are definitive stamps that were issued by the German Empire and the Weimar Republic between 1900 and 1922, depicting Germania. Germania is the personification of the German nation or the Germans as a whole. The stamps represent the longest running series in German philately and are in their many variations and derivations an essential part of German philatelic collections. This Postal Stationary was issued during this year's IBRA23 in Essen.

Germany: Essen International Stamp Fair 2017

The 27th Essen International Stamp Fair took place from 11th to 13th May 2017. It is the oldest event of its kind in Germany, or for that matter, in the entire world. Collectors have been streaming to the Ruhr metropolis from near and far since 1976. Since 2006, the event has been held on an annual basis at the beginning of May. I attended this Stamp Fair for one day and sent this Cover to myself.

The postmark on this cover is kind of special, because its only available at this Stamp Fair. You can read the german word "Messe" ("Fair") on the postmark which indicates this.

Germany: Moehne Reservoir (Möhnesee)

The Moehne Reservoir is an artificial lake in North Rhine-Westphalia, some 45 km east of Dortmund, Germany. The lake is formed by the damming of two rivers, Möhne and Heve, and with its four basins stores as much as 135 million cubic metres of water. The dam was built between 1908 and 1913 to help control floods, regulate water levels on the Ruhr river downstream, and generate hydropower. Today, the lake is also a tourist attraction. During WWII the dam was breached by RAF Lancaster Bombers (“The Dambusters”) during Operation Chastise on the night of 16–17 May 1943, together with the Edersee dam in northern Hesse. Bouncing bombs had been constructed which were able to skip over the protective nets that hung in the water. A huge hole of 77 m by 22 m was blown into the dam.

Germany: Paderborn

Today I received two cards. One from Germany and one from The Netherlands.

Paderborn is a city in eastern North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The name of the city derives from the river Pader and 'born', an old German term for the source of a river. The river Pader originates in more than 200 springs near Paderborn Cathedral, where St. Liborius is buried. To honor St. Liborius, there is a famous festival every last week in July called "Libori". There are 145,000 inhabitants (as recorded in December 2009) living within the city, many of which moved to Paderborn during the last thirty years.

Germany: Gut Bustedt

This card shows the so called "Gut Bustedt". It's an old manor not far away from where I live. It's famous for it's large garden. Often school classes visit it to learn something about nature and biology. In January it celebrated it's 600th birthday and the Deutsche Post issued a special postmark.
