Lund University (Swedish: Lunds universitet) is a public research university in Sweden and one of northern Europe's oldest universities. The university is located in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden. It traces its roots back to 1425, when a Franciscan studium generale was founded in Lund. After Sweden won Scania from Denmark in the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde, the university was officially founded in 1666 on the location of the old studium generale next to Lund Cathedral.

Lund University has nine faculties, with additional campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg, with around 44,000 students in 270 different programmes and 1,400 freestanding courses. The university has 640 partner universities in nearly 70 countries and it belongs to the League of European Research Universities as well as the global Universitas 21 network. Lund University is consistently ranked among the world's top 100 universities.

USA: American Scientists

Gerty Cori was the first female to earn a Nobel Prize for Physiology/Medicine in 1947.  Working with her husband, Cori discovered how carbohydrates are metabolized in the body.  The Cori Crater on the Moon was named for her.

Linus Pauling is considered by most to be the father of molecular biology.  He earned two Nobel Prizes, one for chemistry in 1954 and one for Peace in 1962.  The Linus Pauling Institute was started and later named after Pauling.

Astronomer Edwin Hubble forever changed the way we see our world.  Before Hubble, it was thought that our Milky Way galaxy was the entire universe.  Hubble’s research showed there are galaxies beyond our own.  In 1990, the Hubble telescope was named after the distinguished astronomer.

John Bardeen’s development of the transistor has made possible the creation of almost every other modern electronic device from telephones to missiles.  He earned Nobel Prizes in 1956 and 1972 for his world-changing contributions.

Croatia: 350 Years of the University of Zagreb - FDC

In the academic year 2019/2020, the University of Zagreb celebrated 350 years since its founding in 1669. It is the oldest continuously operating university in Croatia, and one of Europe's oldest universities.

Its history began on 23 September 1669, when the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Hungary and Croatia, Leopold I Habsburg, issued a decree granting the Jesuit Academy in the Free Royal City of Zagreb the status and privileges of a university institution. The recognition was adopted by the Parliament of the Kingdom of Croatia on 3 November 1671. Therefore, the University considers 1669 as the year of its founding and 3 November is celebrated as University Day.

Having started with three faculties and 200 enrolled students, the university has, in the more than three centuries of its existence, grown to today's 34 constituent units and more than 70,000 students.

Ireland: The Cliffs of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher (Irish: Aillte an Mhothair) are sea cliffs located at the southwestern edge of the Burren region in County Clare, Ireland. They run for about 14 kilometres (9 miles). At their southern end, they rise 120 metres (390 ft) above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag's Head, and, 8 kilometres (5 miles) to the north, they reach their maximum height of 214 metres (702 ft) just north of O'Brien's Tower, a round stone tower near the midpoint of the cliffs, built in 1835 by Sir Cornelius O'Brien, then continue at lower heights.

Germany: Research Vessel Polarstern on the Expedition PS113

The cruise leg PS113 coincided with the return voyage of Polarstern after finishing her Antarctic research season 2017/18. PS113 started on the evening of 08 May (2018), delayed by one day due to the somewhat difficult arrangements at the harbour of Punta Arenas, Chile. Tailwinds and a strong tidal current setting towards the Atlantic in the Strait of Magellan, but helped us to regain part of the lost ship time right at the beginning of the cruise. As planned, an intermediate port call at Las Palmas, Canary Islands, took place on 03 June for the exchange of personnel. According to schedule PS113 ended in Bremerhaven early on 11 June 2018.
