The Mirabell Gardens (German: Mirabellgarten) are part of the Mirabell Palace (German: Schloss Mirabell) a historical building in the city of Salzburg, Austria. The palace with its gardens is a listed cultural heritage monument and part of the Historic Centre of the City of Salzburg UNESCO World Heritage Site. The palace was built about 1606 on the shore of the Salzach river north of the medieval city walls, at the behest of Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich Raitenau. Mirabell Gardens was completely redesigned under archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun in 1690 and in 1854, Emperor Franz Joseph made Mirabell Gardens open to the public for the very first time.
